Membership
Dear Prospective Member:
Thank you for your interest in the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). I would like to make you aware of the programs that SWE offers in the Rochester community and invite you to join our organization. SWE is a national organization created as an education service organization dedicated to encouraging young women to pursue careers in engineering and other technical fields.
You will find that the Rochester Section is an active organization of over 40 professional members. Our professional activities typically include tours of local engineering sites, joint meetings with other professional societies student sections, and career development speakers. We also participate in many outreach activities with students of all ages to promote engineering as a field of study and career. This includes annual scholarships to graduating seniors, two badge workshops for local Junior Girl Scouts, and speaking at Career Fairs. Finally, we sponsor several events, such as a canoe outing with the University of Rochester and RIT student sections, a steak roast with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and an annual Holiday Party.
We encourage you to join the Society of Women Engineers. As a member, you will receive SWE Magazine, the bimonthly magazine of the Society; free listing in the SWE membership database (if you choose to participate); registration discounts to the region and national conferences; access to the SWE library and videos which include material on women's issues in engineering; career guidance and much more; plus an affiliation with SWE members in our area, local activities, and our section's electronic newsletter the e-SWEeper. In addition, you will have opportunities for networking with fellow professionals, leadership training, and you will receive the Rochester Engineer, a local engineering publication, and our section directory listing all of our members.
To join SWE, please fill out and submit the membership application.
Feel free to contact any of the executive board members with further questions. We look forward to your involvement in SWE!
Sincerely,
Mary Steblein
SWE Rochester Membership Chair
