ASME/SWE Steak Roast

Brighton's Buckland Park Lodge, 1341 Westfall Rd, Rochester 14618

Members & guests $10, Student members $5; tickets will not be sold at the door.

We will once again join with the Rochester Chapter of American Society of Mechanical Engineers for our annual steak roast. This is an opportunity to have a pleasant meal, see old friends and network with other engineers in the Rochester area. This year’s featured speaker is Dr. Amy L. Lerner, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, Center for Musculoskeletal Research, at the University of Rochester. Dr. Lerner will describe the work she's doing using Finite Element modeling of the human knee in her work titled "Gender Differences and Obesity as Risks for Osteoarthritis."

It has been clearly documented that women have greater risks for osteoarthritis (OA), particularly in the knee. In addition, obesity is associated with higher risks for OA, in both men and women. The specific factors contributing to increased risks in women and those who are overweight remain unclear, however. Unraveling these risk factors is particularly challenging because of the complex interplay between the biological factors (whether hormonal or anatomic variations) and the mechanical factors (activities, kinematics, mechanical forces) and their consequences on the structures of the knee joint.

Reservations need to be made by October 10 through PayPal or by sending a check to the ASME treasurer, Bob Ellson at 20 Dartford Road, Rochester, New York, 14618.

Executive Board Meeting - CANCELLED
